Wilkins Media Company (WMC) has been serving the nationwide advertising community and the out-of-home industry for 45 years. We're the experts at simplifying & optimizing multiple market out-of-home buys for both agencies and advertisers. History
In 1965, a company known as Southern Outdoor Markets emerged as an organization representing outdoor advertising companies in the Southeast. Its primary purpose was to simplify the exhaustive process of planning and buying outdoor media for agencies and advertisers. The company experienced phenomenal success during its first nine years of operation, creating the need for an expansion that would provide better national representation.
The company name was changed in 1974 to Associates of the Bell Company (named for founder Lance Bell), eliminating previous regional limitations. For the first time, agencies and advertisers were able to enjoy the convenience of having one primary contact to place out-of-home advertising in virtually any market across the country.
In 1987, the company was acquired by Bill Wilkins. Mr. Wilkins, former President of the Institute of Outdoor Advertising, is a member of the Outdoor Advertising Hall of Fame, as well as recipient of the L. Ray Vahue Award, the industry’s top marketing award. The company was renamed Wilkins Outdoor Network.
In July 1999, the company again met the challenges & demands of the marketplace, expanding services to include the broad knowledge of all aspects of out-of-home media promotion and marketing. To better define the scope of the company, the name was changed to Wilkins Media Company.
